Maturité suisse

The Swiss Confederacy has organised exams available to all citizens for admission to universities and polytechnic institutes since the nineteenth century. These exams are organised by the Commission Suisse de Maturité (Swiss Maturité Exams Commission) every summer and winter alternatively in each of the universities in the French-speaking western part of Switzerland (Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, and Neuchâtel). The Swiss Maturité exam programme, defined by L’Ordonnance Fédérale de Maturité (Swiss Federal Ruling on the Maturité exam), grants unconditional access to all Swiss universities and polytechnic institutes (except certain medicine faculties that require entrance exams for all candidates). The Swiss Maturité exam is therefore an ideal entry path to further study. The system chosen, in which the candidate and not the educational institute is certified, means that l’École des Buissonnets is free to successfully apply the teaching method inspired by Maria Montessori, which is what makes our school unique. The Swiss Maturité system therefore makes it possible to offer both a truly alternative approach to education and the guarantee of a recognised certificate.

L’École des Buissonnets chose to apply the ruling on the Maturité exam as liberally as possible, which is why we offer such a wide range of options. It is important to meet with the student's motivation by offering a personal dimension to their certificate. The choice offered within the framework of the Swiss Maturité exam offers the opportunity to lend a scientific or literary influence to your certificate. For example, the total weight of scientific sections can go from 20% to 50%, depending on the options chosen. Similarly, it is possible for a student to prepare for a certificate in which the social sciences (philosophy, history, and psychology) making up over one third of final results.

Individual Study Project

The Swiss Maturité certificate is equivalent to the canton-issued Maturité certificates under L’Ordonnance Sur La Reconnaissance Des Certificats De Maturité Gymnasiale (ORM) (Decree on the Recognition of School Leaving Maturité Exams), meaning that the programmes of study for both are very similar.
This means that a student who began studying in a cantonal Maturité study programme can very easily switch to the federal Maturité study programme. In fact, experience has shown that the high level of education in the cantonal Maturité programme has led to such students successfully passing their federal Maturité exams in a short amount of time. Thanks to the flexible study plans adopted by l’École des Buissonnets, for many years now we have seen such students passing their federal Maturité exams successfully after only one year of preparation.
